Our Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Navigators are award-winning specialists who support people affected by acquired brain injury and their families across Oxfordshire as they adapt to and navigate life after brain injury.
They ensure that every person can access the services they need wherever they live across the county, including those who live in remote areas.
How our Acquired Brain Injury Navigators can help
Our ABI Navigators can support you at different stages following your acquired brain injury. You might meet them while you’re still in hospital, be referred by a specialist, or contact us later during your rehabilitation journey. From the moment our ABI Navigators connect with you, they will advocate for you and work to ensure you receive the support you need. Support can include:
Hospital to Home
The transition from hospital to home can be daunting. Our ABI Navigators help make that transition as smooth as as possible, offering practical advice and support.
Family Support
A brain injury can affect the whole family. Our ABI Navigators offer emotional support, practical advice and education to help families.
We believe that involving family in a person’s rehabilitation can strengthen recovery and help everyone feel more confident and supported.
Practical support for carers
Our ABI Navigators can help carers develop strategies to help support their loved-ones. These could include overcoming short term memory difficulties or understanding cognitive fatigue.
Appointments
Our ABI Navigators can attend medical appointments to help reduce the anxiety caused by managing a complex health condition.
Welfare rights and support
The welfare system can be overwhelming, but with years of experience and knowledge, our ABI Navigators can help families access any financial support they may be entitled to.
Advocacy
Our ABI Navigators will advocate for every person they support every step of the way, whenever and wherever needed.
Signposting
Our ABI Navigators are highly knowledgeable and can make referrals to a range of relevant specialist support providers if needed.
