New Oxford Head Injury Services Academy Brain Injury Awareness Training Days announced

Headway Academy: Brain Injury Awareness Training Days

Monday 18th April and Monday 9th May

9:30am-4.00pm

Do you offers services to, or do you have clients That have suffered serious head injuries?

We can offer you and your employees a Brain Injury Awareness Training day

Oxford Head Injury Services has almost 30 years experience of working in the community with people who have suffered serious brain injuries, their carers and families.

Our Headway Academy Training days are held at our Activity and Rehabilitation Centre in Kennington and are hosted by our team of Carers and Community Support workers.

Timetable and content: Headway Academy Brain Injury Awareness days 

9.00 am: Arrive at Oxford Head Injury Services, 4 Bagley Wood Road, Kennington OX15PL

9.30 am: An introduction to brain injury followed by a brief Q & A with one of our service users who has experienced a haemorrhagic stroke

:A session on the Emotional and Behavioural Effects of a brain injury with case studies from the point of view of the client and the supporting partner or family member

:A Q & A with one of our clients wives to talk about the carers perspective of being with someone who has sustained a brain injury

:A talk on the cognitive effects of a brain injury- focusing particularly on the hidden aspects of disability following a  brain injury with interactive 1:1  discussions and group work tasks

:An overview of the Care Act 2014 and the implications for professionals working with people who have a brain injury

:A look at Oxford Head Injury Services and the services we provide; Activity and Rehabilitation centre, Personal Assistant service and our Community Support Workers

4.00 pm: Day ends

Please note we do have a limited number of car parking spaces at the centre, so please let us know if you would like to use one when booking your Brain Awareness Day.

If you would like to get the same feeling we do everyday, you should apply to be a volunteer at Oxford Head Injury Services.

Nearly 4000 people every year in Oxfordshire suffer a serious head injury, all of us at Oxford Head Injury Services are committed to supporting them in their recovery and improving their standard of life and that of their carers and families.

Our Volunteers work alongside our staff team to deliver a quality service to our members.

We welcome volunteers with a variety of skills and offer a number of different volunteering opportunities including

:Working directly in support of people with a brain injury in our Activity and Rehabilitation Centre in Kennington or at one of our satellite groups throughout Oxfordshire

:Fundraising and Awareness raising

:Support at events

:Transporting our members to sessions

: Do you have particular skills, such as teaching music, art or exercise classes we are always looking for new people to bring new activities to the centre in Kennington

We are currently looking for volunteers to help out at our satellite groups in Bicester and Witney. These groups are held twice monthly and you will be working alongside one of our experienced staff members. So if you are the lovely person we know you are, and you live in or near Bicester or Witney do get in touch.
