Oxford Head Injury Services (OHIS), formerly known as Headway Oxfordshire, is excited to announce that we are looking to appoint two new trustees to our Board. We are searching for individuals who can bring diverse experiences and skills to help us continue our vital work.
Specifically, we are looking for:
- A trustee with a strong fundraising background within the charity sector.
- A trustee who has been personally affected by an acquired brain injury, either as a survivor or as a carer.
Our Mission and Vision
Established 35 years ago, OHIS has been dedicated to supporting individuals who have suffered a brain injury and their carers. Brain injuries can result from accidents, trauma, tumours, or strokes. Each year, approximately 4,000 cases of acquired brain injury in Oxfordshire require hospitalisation, with many more individuals affected by minor head injuries like concussions. Our services are crucial in helping these individuals maximise their recovery and independence.
Our Services
Our innovative Oxfordshire Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Support Service is often the first point of contact for those in need. Our ABI Navigators work within hospital settings to identify individuals requiring support early on. They assist individuals and their carers in navigating the complex recovery journey and make referrals to our services or other community-based services as needed.
At our special activity and rehabilitation centre in Kennington, Oxfordshire, we offer a variety of activities to support recovery. Our well-equipped gym and numerous activities such as games, quizzes, art, music, and creative writing promote social interaction, peer support, and resilience.
Additionally, our Head Injury Buddies provide one-on-one support in the home or community, helping individuals tackle everyday challenges associated with brain injury and promoting their independence.
The Role of Trustee
As we embark on a new phase of growth and development as an independent charity, we aim to extend and broaden our range of services. To achieve this, we need to strengthen our fundraising capabilities and enhance our service development to meet the growing needs of our clients.
We seek to appoint two new trustees who can complement the skills of our current Board members. Our Board includes professionals from healthcare, business, research, legal, finance, IT, and HR backgrounds.
Fundraising Trustee: We are looking for someone with experience in fundraising and income generation, ideally within a local or national medium-sized charity. Your expertise will be crucial in helping us secure the funds needed to expand and enhance our services.
Lived Experience Trustee: We are also seeking someone who has experienced an acquired brain injury, either personally or as a carer. Your insights and understanding of the challenges and changes faced by those affected by brain injury will be invaluable. While experience working in the NHS or care sector is a plus, it is not essential.
Commitment and Application
We offer equal opportunities for everyone and welcome applications from all sections of the community. We value diversity and the unique perspectives it brings.
If you are ready for this exciting challenge and can dedicate 3-4 hours per month to prepare for and attend Board meetings, and occasionally support publicity and fundraising events, we would love to hear from you.
Full details and Information on how to apply
Join us in making a significant difference in the lives of those affected by brain injury. Your skills, experiences, and enthusiasm could be just what we need to take OHIS into its next exciting chapter.
