Christmas Lunch at the ARC

We hope you all had a merry Christmas, however you chose to spend it. At the ARC we had a fantastic time serving a whopping 90 Xmas lunches over 3 days. All of this was paid for by the table top sale so a huge thank you to anyone who donated, bought or helped out in any way with the sale!

It’s been another great year at OHIS, and with our new CEO Claire at the helm we are sure that the only way is up for 2024.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us at OHIS!

A message from our new CEO: Clare Periton!

A photo of our new CEO, Clare Periton.

I am really delighted to join Oxford Head Injury Services (OHIS) and I am thrilled to have the opportunity of leading the charity into its next chapter. I am firmly committed to making a difference to the lives of people who have acquired head injuries and know how important it is to have a holistic family approach.

I was part of the team at Helen & Douglas House for 18 years, previously as Director of Clinical Services and Deputy Chief Executive and as Chief Executive Officer from 2015.

I very much enjoy working with people and have extensive experience of managing the challenges faced by charities, such as the day-to-day running of services, funding shortfalls, serious incidents and organisational change.

My previous background was in the NHS working as a Registered Nurse, Health Visitor, District Nurse and Senior Manager. I have over 30 years of experience working in a managerial capacity. I have maintained my nursing registration.

I originally trained at the Oxford School of Nursing, I studied Community Nursing at Kings College, London and completed a Master’s degree in Evidence Based Health Care at New College, Oxford.

I love working with clients and their families and I am committed to the delivery of compassionate person-centred care. I have experience of working in a number of different organisations: I was a Board Nurse on Oxford City’s Primary Care Trust, a Trustee of Children’s Hospices UK and was one of the lay members of Oxfordshire Safeguarding Children Board for 10 years. I am currently a Trustee for the Clare Foundation and Homeless Oxfordshire. My professional interests include coaching and mentoring, developing new leaders, organisational development and collaborative initiatives.

I live in Oxford and have two daughters who are 16 and 17 and an ageing black Labrador. When not at work I enjoy spending time on my road bike, passing time on the north Norfolk beaches, cooking, gardening and walking.
