Everyone at Oxford Head Injury Services are getting very excited as very soon we will be heading off to the home of British Motorsport Silverstone as the official charity partner of MG Live 2016.

MG Live is the biggest MG Car event in the world, literally thousands of MG fans from allover the world will be flocking to Silverstone for a two day celebration of the iconic British sports car on the weekend of June 4th and 5th.

For over 50 years MG’s of all shapes and sizes rolled out of the factory in the Abingdon, just a short drive from our base in Kennington, on the site of the old factory you will now find the MG Car Club the custodians of the MG legacy and the people behind MG Live.

The link between the MG Car Club and Oxford Head Injury Services stretches much further than the short distance we are from one another. Motorsport has been in the Club’s history since its existence, and with that comes a commitment to head safety, vividly illustrated by MG’s famous slogan “Safety Fast”

MGLive! is the event where the whole family gets together to celebrate everything that’s great about MG cars and MG people.

A big draw of the event is the vast array of family entertainment on offer. Displays of the very best MG’s, amazing driving skills, Lifestyle Marquee, a fantastic racing on the track and much more!

We will be at at the heart of MG Live for the whole weekend, selling programs and fundraising as well as welcoming visitors to our marquee where you will be able to find out more about the effects and impact of brain injuries, how Oxford Head Injury Services helps the 4000 people who suffer brain injuries in Oxfordshire each year, as well as their carers and families with support and rehabilitation. There will also be some interactive games to play that will give you a unique insight into the effects of brain injuries.

Our marquee will also be hosting in conjunction with the MG Car Club a exhibition of car safety devices from the last 90 years, and a display of some of the cover artwork of the iconic MG magazine “Safety Fast”.

The undoubted star turn at the Oxford Head Injury Services marquee will be a a unique chance to see the 1972 MGB SSV1 safety systems vehicle

1972-MGB-SSV1-safety-car

This one of a kind prototype was produced to show that all types of safety systems could be fitted into a small sports car, it features many then groundbreaking features such as passive seat belts, air bags and anti-lock braking which are now standard. It also incorporates some outlandish features that possibly resulted from some very late nights at the drawing board including a rear view periscope and an anti-drunk driving engine shut off device seemingly based on the cult 70’s electronic Simon Says game!

Huge thanks to the British Motor Museum at Gaydon for allowing us to borrow this astounding and unique car from their collection.

Jamie Miller our CEO on our partnership with MG Live and the MG Car Club.

“It was so important to us that we had something special on show at MGLive! as we were very keen from the start to show a real link and interest to the MG Car Club and MGLive! 2016. We are delighted to have MGB SSV1 in our marquee, and we believe that all MG fans will be interested in seeing it, as well as learning more about what we do, and the safety of MG throughout the years.”

MG Car Club General Manager Adam Sloman said:

“It’s great to see that Oxford Head Injury Services is really getting on board with MGLive! this year, and having the MGB SSV1 adds not only a brilliant link between the marque and the charity but also shows off a very interesting car to fans who may not have seen it before.”

John Day, the MG Car Club President said:

“Oxford Head Injury Services is the perfect fit for the MG Car Club and MGLive! 2016. The link between them is very strong, and I believe it’s a charity that people will wholeheartedly understand and support.”
